Hanuman (2024) - Movie Review

Hanuman (2024), directed by Prasanth Varma, is a visually stunning and action-packed mythological adventure that reimagines the legend of Hanuman in a modern, cinematic format. It is part of Varma's larger "Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe" (PVCU), bringing beloved mythological figures into contemporary storytelling with state-of-the-art VFX.

The film follows the journey of Hanumanthu (played by Teja Sajja), an ordinary young man who unexpectedly inherits the power and responsibilities of the mythological Hanuman. The narrative is a refreshing blend of modern-day struggles and divine intervention, presenting Hanumanthu’s journey from doubt and confusion to realizing his true potential. The character's development is relatable, making him more than just a larger-than-life superhero, but also a symbol of devotion, strength, and duty.

One of the highlights of Hanuman is the visual spectacle. The movie boasts impressive CGI work, with action sequences that are on par with some Hollywood blockbusters. The depiction of Hanuman’s powers—his ability to fly, his immense strength, and his connection to nature—are beautifully portrayed, making it a treat for mythology fans. The vibrant color palette and larger-than-life set pieces create an immersive experience that transports the audience to a mystical world.

Teja Sajja delivers a commendable performance, embodying the innocence and strength of Hanumanthu with conviction. His emotional scenes, especially those exploring the burden of power and responsibility, are heartfelt. The supporting cast, including Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Vinay Rai, add depth to the storyline with their strong performances.

However, the film is not without its flaws. At times, the pacing feels uneven, with the first half being more focused on building the world and setting up the narrative, while the second half rushes through crucial character arcs and plot points. Some dialogues feel overly dramatic, and the film occasionally leans too much into melodrama.

Despite these minor issues, Hanuman is an ambitious and enjoyable film that brings mythology to a modern audience in a grand cinematic style. It’s a celebration of Indian culture and folklore, combined with a superhero narrative that resonates with today's viewers. For fans of action, mythology, and epic storytelling, Hanuman is a must-watch.
